Fish Beasts in the Ocean
-- by Matt

It was about nine in the morning and my grandpa, my dad, and I were getting ready to go on a fishing trip to try and catch a Tarpon.

On the way out the guide, Captain Todd, told us about how big Tarpon can get.  We were all amazed to hear that they can get as big as 215 pounds.

When we got to the place we were going to fish at, the water was very murky.  The captain threw out some baitfish to try to get some big fish in.  After about 35 minutes there was a zzzziiiinnngggg! and we all knew that it was a big fish on the line.  The captain handed the pole to me and all of a sudden, I saw a great big fish jump out of the water and I saw how big it was.  But, when it landed on the water, the line went loose and I thought he was coming towards the boat. It turned out the fish had snapped the line.  I was so disappointed that it got off.

About 15 minutes later, there was another fish on the line.  This time the captain handed the pole to my grandpa.  This one we had hooked well.  It kept jumping, but the drag was set right and he started to reel it in.  After about 45 to 50 minutes, the captain had touched the leader about 5 times.  The last time he touched it, the fish got off the hook and quickly swam-away.

The captain just stood there with his mouth open and it looked like my grandpa was about to jump in and tackle the fish into the boat. He didn't though; he just started to laugh at how big the fish was!  The captain said it was probably about 125 to 130 pounds.

When we got back to the dock I said I wanted to stay out there and fish all day.  We went home and got some rest instead.  That was a day I will never forget!

 Showing-Up Dad
-- by Justin

One day, when I was fishing with my dad, we caught many fish.  I was determined to catch the biggest fish of them all.  I had already caught 12 fish, but I knew that I could catch a bigger fish that weighed more than two pounds.  At the end of the day, my dad caught a six pound fish.  I begged my dad to continue fishing.  I GOT ONE!  I yelled so loud.  I was so happy - it was a seven-pound walleye!  One more pound than my dad’s fish. That’s my fishing trip.

THE END!

 The Monsters Under the Ice
--by Bobby

Last winter I got to go with my uncle on an ice fishing trip to Tobin Lake in Saskatchewan Canada. We caught 20 fish averaging around 25 pounds. We threw them all back. The biggest one we caught was 31 pounds. It made the 23 pounder we caught earlier look like a baby. It was fun.

A Shared Experience

by Eric

I was camping at Pine Mountain Resort with my family and my friend Ryan. My dad brought his Lund boat. We went fishing out on Pine Mountain Lake. It was great weather for fishing. It was Labor Day weekend and the colors were awesome. The water was calm.

When we went fishing in our boat I caught my first walleye. I got so excited, then my friend Ryan caught his first walleye, he was excited too! The walleye I caught was about 19 inches long. I think it weighed one pound five ounces. My friend and I were using Lindey rigs and we had fun. THE END.

Biggest Bass I Had Ever Seen
--by Jake

One day in July 2005, I was casting off shore at our cottage on Sodus bay. I cast under our own dock with a rubber worm and BOOM!

The big bass took off to the other side of the dock and I was sure the line was going to break because his pulling was rubbing the line against sharp rocks. Three times I pulled him back to my side of the dock and three times he got back to the other side of the dock. Finally, I got him to my side and he was tired.

I knew that this was the biggest bass I had ever seen and he was 6 pounds if he was an ounce (3 pounders are rare on Sodus Bay). I worked him towards me and got down on my belly, reached down and lipped him. However, I didn’t have a good grip at first and I sent him back down for a few seconds to get a better grip. Next thing I knew he was swimming away. No! I screamed louder than I ever have. It was the first time I have ever cried over a fish.  What a huge fish. This is a true story and a sad one for me.

Enormous Brown Trout
--by Max

I went to Colorado fly-fishing with a guide.  My guide tied on a green drake.  I cast my line near a rising trout stream.  I hooked in to a 2.3 brown trout.  It was huge!

An Overnight Thief

--by Ted

Many years ago (27) when our son was around 8 yrs old, he had invited a buddy from Connecticut to come up to Maine for some exciting smallmouth bass fishing. The night before his buddy's arrival, our son coincidently caught a rather large 18" bass. In his excitement to show off his trophy fish, he suggested keeping it 'fresh' overnight in the lake water. So, he put in a stringer and tied it to the dock.  Early next morning when his buddy arrived, they went down to the dock together full of excitement to see the trophy bass.

Much to his wide-eyed dumbfounded expression, when he pulled his stringer out of the water, all they could see was the leftover remains of the fish head. On occasion in the past we observed a huge snapping turtle in distant parts of the lake. Apparently, unknown to us he would make the lake rounds.

He evidently lucked out and delighted in having a midnight feast of our son’s trophy fish. After the initial shock, our son joined in the laughter with everyone else.

The One That Got Away
-- by Jordan

This is my story of my crazy adventure. It happened a year or so ago and it was not pretty, especially for me the one who lost the fish!

It was about 6 when we headed out on the Rideu Canal, we went to an excellent spot for bass and pike. Randy was the first to catch one then it was little Jordan and then me big Jordan!

When I finished hauling in the trophy 5.7 pound bass we decided to call it a day, or night which ever you want to call it. When we were docking and getting out of the boat Randy was passing the bass out of the livewell over the water and to me, I fumbled the fish through the crack between the boat and the dock and then it was gone!

I was standing with my jaw hung open, so disappointed I was about to scream, but I held it in and rushed in to shore to tell my parents the bad news and then enjoyed some hot cocoa and marshmallows by the fire!

Monster Fish
--by Riley

WHAT A MONSTER!  Can you guess what I caught on Father's Day?  I caught a 9lb pike.  I caught it in Moskoty Bay. It almost pulled me in.  I thought I hit bottom.  My dad help me reel it in.  We got him in the boat. We ate it that night.  That is the biggest fish I have ever caught!!!
