HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN FISHING?
I've been fishing since the age of 4. I started competitive fishing over 30 years ago, and most of those years were in a Lund boat. My dad started me fishing at a very young age and I am so thankful he did.
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO BECOME A LUND PRO-STAFF?
My first boat was a Lund. At the age of 19 I met Gary Roach and Randy Amenrude, who were two of the original Lund Pros. After meeting them and fishing with them I wanted to be on the Lund team. They inspired me, and to this day are great lifetime friends. I feel very privileged to be a Lund Pro for so much of my fishing life.
CAN YOU TELL US THE LARGEST FISH YOU HAVE EVER CAUGHT?
I caught a 75 lb sturgeon on 10 lb test Berkley line in 1977. I also caught a walleye that weighed 16 lb 4 oz in Lake Winnipeg.
WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
I was born in Belgium and at the age of 2 came across to Canada on a large boat. Maybe that large boat had something to do with my fishing urge?
WHERE DO YOU MOSTLY FISH?
I fish all over Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario. You will see me at the following tournaments this year: Dryden Walleye Masters/ Minaki Walleye Classic/ Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship/ Kenora Bass International/ Angler Young Angler Championship/ Bassin for Bucks/ Shoal Lake Fall Bass/ Voyageurs Walleye Pine Falls.
WHAT IS THE BEST FISHING TIP THAT YOU EVER RECEIVED?
At a PWT tournament in Bay City, Michigan a fellow competitor returned a favor I did for him from the previous tournament. He was struggling in his pre-fish and I shared a tip with him that really helped boost his confidence. When I got to Bay City, I had no time to pre-fish and Tony gave me the tip to put a crawler on the front hook of my storm thunder stick crankbait. After the three days, I ended up in 7th place and was the first Canadian to qualify for the PWT championship at Rainy Lake. That was one of the most memorable Pro-Staff years. Thanks Tony.
IN WHAT WAYS ARE YOU INVOLVED IN THE ANGLING COMMUNITY?
I talk fishing and boating day and night. I have taught fishing in seminars and appeared on television fishing shows promoting all my great sponsors. I help out at the AYA championship. I am always talking with local people at all the tournaments.
PICK 5 WORDS TO DESCRIBE YOURSELF
Honest, Dependable, Versatile, Helpful, and Understanding.
WHAT WAS THE BEST YEAR OF YOUR LIFE?
The best year of my life was when I married my lovely wife Wendy.
WHAT’S THE BEST ADVICE YOU’VE EVER RECEIVED?
The best advice I ever received was from Gary Roach, he told me when I first met him to be myself and not to try to be like someone else. To this day I carry that advice with me.
WHAT TRAIT DO YOU ADMIRE IN PEOPLE?
Honesty and respect.
WHAT’S YOUR WORST HABIT?
Talking too much is probably worse than chewing my fingernails. Eventually you have no nails left but my talking never stops.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE MODEL OF LUND TO FISH OUT OF AND WHY?
2010 Pro Guide- this boat is a fishing machine. It really is built right around a fisherman like me. Boat control is the key, and the 2010 is truly the cream of the Lund crop when it comes to holding on fish in any conditions. Thanks for creating such a gem.
ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD LIKE TO SAY TO OUR ENTIRE STAFF AT LUND BOATS?
I would like to thank all the Lund staff for truly caring about what they make. The quality and the workmanship that all of you at Lund put into your boats is second to none in the boat industry. One of the biggest highlights in my life is jumping in my Lund and going fishing. Lund is the best boat on the water. I feel very honored and privileged to be part of the Lund family. My Lund has truly tightened up my personal life with my family. A lot of our fondest memories together were in the Lund. I'm not sure how Lund can make their boats any better, but you guys and girls always find a way. Keep up the great pride you all take in workmanship at Lund. It's my pleasure to thank you all very much.
