It was the mid 1990's fishing with my dad on Devils Lake, just one of many experiences that ignited a lifelong passion for the sport of fishing. It was July, flat clam and hot with a nasty algae bloom, not exactly great walleye weather, but we persevered and were rewarded. We landed on the mecca of all schools of walleye, and it was honestly as fast as you could drop your jig down, you would catch one, a truly exhilarating experience. The caveat being you had to have a heavy enough jig to drop quickly to the bottom through the school of suspended white fish above them. There was no one else on the bay, so we openly and loudly whooped, hollered and high fived to the point that when we returned to our dock, our neighbors said they could hear us all the way across the bay, a testament to the joy and excitement of that unforgettable day.
